Dresden man arrested on homicide
charge |
A Dresden resident was taken into custody Monday by
members of the Dresden Police Department on the charge of
murder.
The arrest took place after Dresden Police were notified by
the United States Marshal’s Service that they has an active
felony arrest warrant for the offense of criminal homicide
on a man residing on East Maple Street in Dresden.
During the course of the investigation, Dresden Police
Investigator Clay Anderson obtained an arrest warrant for
the residence located behind 145 East Maple Street. The
individual was identified as Robert Charles Trout, age 44.
Officers from the Dresden Police Department’s Special
Response Team executed the search and arrest warrants at 8
p.m. Monday. Trout was taken into custody after a brief
struggle with officers. During the service of the warrant,
officers also located several plastic bags containing a
white power substance believed to be cocaine and
methamphetamine. Additionally, unlawful drug paraphernalia
was seized on the premises.
As a result of the search, additional charges have been
filed against Trout, including: possession of schedule 2
controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of
unlawful drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule 2
methamphetamine, and resisting arrest.
Trout was booked at the Weakley County Detention Center and
is awaiting extradition to McLean County Illinois on the
homicide charges.

Commission approves interlocal
agreement |
By David Fisher

Members of the Weakley County Commission approved a
revamping of the Weakley County Economic Development
Corporation, as well as several budget transfers and
resolutions during Monday night’s regular monthly meeting.
New Interlocal Agreement
The new interlocal agreement, outlined in Resolution No.
2005-27, will require considerably more money to fund,
mainly due to the fact that it calls for hiring a full-time,
professional industrial recruiter, with the credentials
necessary to recruit new industry to Weakley County, as well
as working closely with existing industry to keep jobs that
are already here from going elsewhere. It is estimated that
it may cost as much as $70,000 per year to pay the annual
salary of an individual of this caliber, with the remainder
of the $200,000 program budget funding other aspects of the
program.
During discussion, Commissioner Andy Page of Greenfield
said, “I feel compelled to encourage every county
commissioner (to support it). Hopefully, every county
commissioner understands what this interlocal agreement is
doing. This is certainly an attempt to recruit jobs back
into Weakley County. Anywhere in Weakley County will be a
benefit to us.”

Martin man charged with
aggravated assault of a minor |
By David Fisher

A 35 year-old Martin man is lodged in the Weakley County
Detention Center after he was arrested for hitting his
girlfriend’s 16 year-old son in the back of his head with an
aluminum baseball bat Saturday night.
According to Captain Scott Robbins of the Martin Police
Department, officers received a 911 call at 7:26 p.m.
Saturday night from 115 Sterling Street, in reference to a
fight in progress. When patrolmen Eric Reed and Stacy
Bostwick arrived at the scene, they found the 16 year-old
lying on the front porch and bleeding from his head.
Investigation revealed that the victim had gotten into a
verbal argument with his mothers boyfriend, who lives with
them at that address. The argument became physical with both
parties assaulting each other. The boyfriend, Anthony
Alexander, then went inside the residence and picked up an
aluminum baseball bat and hit the sixteen year-old in the
back of his head with the bat. Alexander then fled the scene
in his car.
The Weakley County Ambulance Service transported the victim
to Volunteer Community Hospital where he was treated for his
injury. His condition is unknown at this time.
